Affordable summer trend 2013: Monochrome stripes

Unlike the majority of content posted on the internet today, this does NOT FEATURE A BABY.

This is another post on nailing a summer trend without breaking the bank. Stripes can either do wonders for your figure by elongating your shape if worn vertically or they can broaden you if worn horizontally.  Unfortunately, the trend is mostly horizontal so be sure not to wear too heavily on your bottom half if you’re pear shaped or top half if you’re uber busty.

I’ve trawled the high street to present some great items that together come to less than £100.

This dress is only £15 at Oasis.  I would cover the thick stripe at the waist with a gold or brown belt and then add a chunky necklace, but it will also look great on its own, plain and simple with some flat sandals or ballet pumps.

If you suffer from short legs and wide hips, this could be the skirt for you as the vertical stripes should elongate your legs.  For a business meeting, I’d wear with a white shirt but it would also look great with a bright tee and lots of accessories. It’s £15 from Topshop.

Warning! These are not for the faint hearted! Only consider if you’re tall and have slim legs.  If you’re short and you try these, you may look like a leprechaun! These are fun and are £17 reduced from £48 from Motel at asos

I LOVE this top.  Not only are sleeveless shirts everywhere at the moment but the colour and style will mean it can be worn with really bright colours.  It would look great with cropped trousers, a clingy  midi skirt or a mini skirt as shown by the model. This is £28 at ASOS.

I hope this lot helps.  One thing though, PLEASE don’t try them all together or you’ll look like you’re getting ready for bed! xx
