A few weeks ago I blogged about going on top of the Shard in London. Not only was it great to do a touristy thing in London – because if you live there, you tend to miss out on the main sights – but we went up early evening so we got to see the sun setting. Beautiful! And really quite blinding!
As I said in that post, it made me feel very proud to be a Londoner (ish) because, even without a Central Park and a statue of Liberty, London’s sights are pretty bloody impressive.
The fortnight before, P and I had been in New York for our honeymoon where we ventured to the ‘Top of the Rock’ which is the viewing gallery from the Rockefeller Center. Don’t get me wrong, the sights of Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, New Jersey…. they’re all pretty stupendously great to see but London still kicks NY ass when it comes to breathtaking views.
Please excuse this pic of me without sunglasses. The word you’re looking for here is DE-HY-DRATED. (I’d had a very large Manhattan in Manhattan the night before….)
What was your third peak I hear you say? Well, a week after the Shard visit, I joined my friends in Dubai for the weekend and as part of that trip we went to the Burj Khalifa. I can safely say I have never had a hangover so high before.
If you don’t know, the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and the place that the Dubai New Year fireworks went off from.
I went with 3 of my mates including one who’s been living in Dubai for years and has seen the place utterly transform in that time. The beauty of a desert is there’s always room to expand to.
And the last, albeit unflattering, pic of me to prove I was there:
So 3 peaks in 3 weeks: New York 12 May, London 24 May and Dubai 31 May. Can I have my prize now please?
Or at least recognition please Burj??
What’s your current challenge?
